WZMH Architects’ redesign of CF Toronto Eaton Centre’s Level 2 washrooms – a high-traffic restroom serving as many as 60,000 shoppers per week – demonstrates how thoughtful retail design reaches well beyond the storefront.
Luigi Trama, Associate Principal at the firm, spoke to Retail Insider about how the design drew inspiration from sunlight on water at golden hour – and how considered material selection, colour, lighting, and finishes should extend to even the most utilitarian parts of our public spaces.
“We selected the golden hour, when the warm rays of the sun create a very peaceful experience… When people enter the washrooms, they want the quality of the experience to continue,” he notes. “Why should they feel a disconnection?”
