Montgomery Sisam in AZURE Magazine

24 Oct

The Koffler Scientific Reserve complex, designed by Montgomery Sisam Architects, sits within 900 acres of lush forest in Ontario’s Oak Ridges Moraine – a place where architecture, ecology, and research come together.

Rooted in sustainability and a deep respect for place, the design showcases mass timber construction that connects seamlessly to its forest surroundings. Clad in charred cedar using the shou sugi ban technique, the architecture reflects both resilience and restraint. Carefully oriented to capture sunlight, breezes, and shifting seasonal views, the buildings minimize mechanical reliance while maximizing comfort and connection to nature.

A warm congratulations to Montgomery Sisam Architects and everyone involved in bringing this project to life.
