The Honnold Foundation partners with marginalized communities to expand equitable solar energy access. Founded in 2012 by professional rock climber Alex Honnold, the organization believes that energy should be clean, affordable, and accessible for everyone. The Honnold Foundation provides funding, project management, and a storytelling spotlight to nonprofit partners worldwide, who are using solar energy to create opportunity, increase social equity, and build more resilient communities.
Idea Workshop worked closely with the Honnold Foundation’s team to collaboratively realize the organization’s vision and mission as well as cultivate brand awareness for the Honnold Foundation and its key new program the Levine Impact Lab (LIL). A communications strategy developed by Idea Workshop led to the development of strong media relations across several industries and numerous earned media placements. Idea workshop also supported the Honnold Foundation in launching the LIL, drafting and placing several press releases, promoting Honnold Foundation initiatives and events, and in providing media training and advice to both the Honnold Foundation and its partners.
A focus on raising awareness of the work the Honnold Foundation, and its partners, through targeted pitching and op-ed/thought leadership placements led to successful outcomes both domestically and internationally. Coverage included cover stories, podcast interviews, and articles in national, sustainable-focused, and local publications. Secured partner and program features include coverage on Memphis Rox, Casa Pueblo, Southside Blooms, the LIL, PSYDEH, RUWONET, Creamos, Feed the Second Line, and Native Renewables, while also promoting the Honnold Foundation’s leadership.
