Toronto’s new Line 5 Eglinton is a rethinking of how infrastructure can shape the everyday experience of the city.
“Every element was designed for intuitive, connected journeys and addressing the needs of the city, the neighbourhood, and the individual,” Lisa D’Abbondanza, principal and practice group manager, Arcadis, told Dezeen. “These typologies strengthen each neighbourhood, but maintain a unified architectural language throughout.”
The line’s design, led by design and engineering outfit Arcadis and AtkinsRéalis, alongside studios Daoust Lestage Lizotte Stecker, NORR, and DIALOG, balances consistency with local identity. The line links dozens of neighbourhoods across Toronto and reclaims its underground as a dynamic public realm.
