DIALOG in The Tyee

09 Apr

Calgary’s Glenbow Museum gears up to reopen next year, reinvented as the JR Shaw Centre for Arts & Culture. DIALOG’s architectural reimagination honours the building’s historic legacy while inviting community and participation.

“Instead of covering up the memories of the building, we highlighted the memories of the building,” said Robert Claiborne, the project’s conceptual architect and a partner at DIALOG.

The redesign brings the museum’s existing character to the forefront, preserving its Brutalist architectural legacy while embracing pluralism – an architecture that asks questions – and inclusivity. The result is a cultural environment that feels both familiar and renewed, better serving the city’s vibrant arts and culture community.
